Javier Marías, Personality and Persons, Reality and Fictions
10. march 2008 at 8:30 | Editor
The final third volume Venero y sombra y adiós (Poison and Shadow and Farewell) of Javier Marías´s trilogy Tu rostro maňana (Your Face Tomorrow) was published by Vintage in October 2007. - In December 2007, Czech translation of Marías´s Todas las almas by Blanka Stárková was released under the title Všechny duše. This novel located in Oxford and in the environment of the University of Oxford is already the third Marías´s book available in Czech - Maňana en la batalla piensa en mí translated by Marie Jungmannová as Vzpomínej na mne zítra při bitvě appeared in 1999, Corazón tan blanco translated by Blanka Stárková as Srdce tak bílé was released in 2004.
Posibility and impossibility to know, sensitivity and indifference, relationships and withdrawals, vitality and death are intertwined in Marías´s books, mirroring, confirming and opposing each other. - The struggle to understand the world, the success and failure of such endeavour, the necessity to recognize reality from fiction and to renew one´s relatedness to other people is a theme actual not only for Javier Marías and for persons in his novels, but also and no less for us.
In March and April articles of Psychoanalytický týdeník, our authors are inquiring into the latitude of personal and literary aspects of Marías´s writing. The first of articles is special essay by K.T. entitled Javier Marías and Differences in Experiencing Oxford, Sharing Time, and Death.
Meetings, Departures, Returns as Psychoanalytic Contacts
19. september 2007 at 9:43 | Editor
Meetings, departures and returns may be considered contacts of rich emotional content not only in psychoanalysis. Psychoanalysis as psychotherapy is both a long-term process and a highly intensive relationship, and in reality we can meaningfully think over psychoanalysis only as over an integral whole of the process and the relationship, full of moments that can be characterized as meetings, departures, and returns sui generis.
Each psychoanalysis or even an individual psychoanalytic contact has its individual specific qualities and importance. In September and October, we would like to present case vignettes concerning special psychoanalytic contacts, mainly related to the topics of meetings, departures, and returns, and a research survey dealing with the topic of psychotherapy termination.
